Ep 14. Developing a Healthier Relationship with Alcohol Whilst Building Your Career
Hey there, fellow listeners!
It's your pals Louis and Sam here, bringing you another heart-to-heart from our latest podcast episode. Today, we're diving into a topic that's a bit personal for us both: our journey with alcohol.
Now, we've all had our fair share of experiences with the good ol' tipple, haven't we? From those first tentative sips in uni to the more, let's say, 'enthusiastic' nights out, alcohol has been a constant companion in many of our social escapades. But as we've grown a bit wiser (and our hangovers a bit harsher), we've started to look at our pints and spirits through a different lens.
For me, Louis, the turning point came when I decided to train for a marathon. I realized that the booze was doing my fitness levels no favours, so I chose to cut it out completely. It was tough, especially when everyone around you is toasting to the weekend, but the clarity I gained was worth it.
And I, Sam, have taken a more mindful approach. I love a good glass of wine, but now I savor it, rather than knocking it back without a second thought. It's all about intentionality, setting boundaries, and knowing when one more is one too many.
We've both seen how alcohol can mess with your productivity, mental health, and overall well-being. It's not just about the hangovers (though, let's be honest, they're no picnic either). It's about how you feel the next day, the next week, and how it fits into your long-term goals.
We're not here to preach or tell you to put down your pint – far from it. We're just two blokes who've learned that sometimes, less really is more. Whether it's finding new ways to unwind or just being present in the moment, there's a whole world beyond the bottom of your glass.
So, here's to personal growth, to managing stress and time, and to family – those folks who stick by you, whether you're toasting with champagne or a cuppa. Here's to finding your balance and remembering that the best highs don't come from a bottle.
Cheers to that, and remember – drink responsibly, folks!
Your mates,
Louis & Sam
